Jupiter Three

jupiterthree.com is a blog written by ed4becky that represents a fictional character, Derick Ryan. The story starts in the terrestrial year 2265, and will follow the journey of Derick from Mars to Jupiter on board the colony ship Jupiter Three. There are many issues related to colonization of other worlds, scientific and sociological. I hope to explore many of these issues over the coming months. There will also be a suspense element as the story unfolds.

I was inspired to start this fictional site after participating in the 2008 NaNoWriMo competition. I had based my novel in a fictional colony on the moons orbiting Jupiter. I wanted a secondary outlet for developing my writing, and at the same time had become interested in a narrow portion of the sci fi arena, that focusing on “hard” science fiction. This site is the result of the convergence of those interests.

I plan to augment the site with reviews of books I am currently reading, focusing on the hard sci fi genre. I am becoming as intrigued reading about hard sci fi as I am reading sci fi itself; the trends, the awards, the arguments about what qualifies. Go figure.

It is my hope that as the blog progresses, it becomes better. It is also my hope, as it is the hope of every writer, that you find the story interesting enough to revisit the site and follow the story of Derick Ryan and the Jupiter Three.
